New 2005 Senior hurling Championship :
There were 26 teams in the 2004 championship
Mid [7] Boherlahan, J.K. Brackens, Drom/Inch, Holycross, Loughmore, Sarsfields, Upperchurch
North [9] Borrisoleigh, Kildangan, Kilruane, Moneygall, Nenagh, Portroe, Roscrea, Templederry, Toomevara
South [4] Ballingarry, Swans, Killenaule, Mullinahone.
West [6] Cappawhite, Cashel, Clonoulty, Galtee Rovers, Kickhams, The “Combo”.
[1] One preliminary game in Mid and North who have an uneven number of teams.
The two losers of these games to enter the county championship round robin.
[2] Round One of the divisional championships in Mid [3], North [4], South [2] and West [3].
The twelve games result in 12 winners and 12 losers. [3 in Mid, 4 in North, 2 in South and 3 in West]
The 2 losers from [1] and the 12 losers from [2] play in the county championship in a Round Robin series.
[1 x 4] + [1 x 4] + [1 x 3] + [1 x 3] will take three rounds to complete.
[3] Round Robin 1
[4] Round Robin 2 + 4 Divisional semi-finals [1 in Mid, 2 in North, 0 in South and 1 in West]
[5] Round Robin 3 + 4 Divisional Finals
[6] 4 games between the 4 Round Robin winners and the 4 losing teams from the four divisional semi-finals.
[7] Four games between the four winners from [6] and the four divisional runners-up
[8] Four games between the four winners from [7] and the four divisional champions.
These would be the four county quarter-finals.
[9] Two county semi-finals
[10] County Final.
Advantages :
Every team is guaranteed at least three games. The majority get more.
Every team competes in the divisional championship and also in the county championship.
There are no byes. Byes are prohibited by Official Guide 111except in first rounds only, unless sanctioned by C.C.
The divisional championships are enhanced as advancement in the divisional championship is carried in to county.
No team in relegation can win the divisional or county championship as could have happened in ’04.
Relegation can be played immediately after the completion of the Round Robin. There will be no delay.
The system caters for a limited number of amalgamations.
It takes far fewer rounds than the ’04 system to complete.
Regulations :
Every game to be played to a conclusion on the day except for divisional finals, county semi-finals and finals.
Relegation to be contested by the bottom teams of the four groups in the Round Robin.
No division to drop below four.
Intermediate teams which win two consecutive divisional titles to have the option to go senior.
